It is no secret that drinking water is very important. Our bodies are about 60 – 70% water, so drinking enough of it is vital for optimal health. Here I am sharing with you 6 simple ways to drink more water daily.
Why Is It Important to Drink More Water?
Water plays many vital roles in your body. These include, maintaining electrolyte balance and blood pressure, lubricating joints, regulating body temperature, transportation of nutrients and promoting cell health. Just to list a few.
The Difficulty with Drinking Water
While everyone knows that it’s important to stay hydrated, doing so can be extremly difficult at times.
There are many things that result in keeping us from drinking enough water. If it is not the various option of other things we’d rather be drinking, it is our busy schedules. Also, not forgetting the belief that if we drink more water, we will be spending half the day in the bathroom.
6 Simple Ways to Drink More Water
Buy A Fancy Cool Water Bottle
If you invest in a water bottle that you really like, you may be more excited to drink more water. I mean you want to keep it around you and use it. This works especially well in spaces were water bottles can double as desk accessories.
Add in Some Fun and Flavour with Fruits
Plain water can easily get boring, so add in a few slices of lemon, lime, berries, or even cucumber. If you dislike the flavour of water, or just need a bit of flavour to help you drink more, add in some fruit. Popular fruit combinations to use in your water are cucumber-lime, lemon, and strawberry-kiwi. Although, you can use any combination of fruits that suits your taste.
Additionally, it looks cool if your water bottle is clear.
Drink Water Before Every Meal
Another simple way to increase your water intake is to make a habit of drinking one glass of water before each meal. Moreover, did you know that sometimes our bodies may mistake feelings of thirst for hunger? Drinking some water before you eat a meal can help you to avoid overeating. Also, drinking water before a meal can help with digestion. Additionally, if you’re trying to lose weight, drinking a glass of water may help you eat fewer calories at the meal to follow.
Set A Daily Goal
Setting a daily water intake goal can help you drink more water. Simply the act of setting a goal can be motivating and make you more likely to make positive changes that last.
Firstly, to be effective, goals should be SMART, which is an acronym for the following criteria:
For example, my SMART water-consumption goal might be to drink 1000 ml (1L) of water at work per day. All I must do is empty out just two 500ml bottles before I knockoff. Lastly, make it a habit.
You can also set reminders to drink more water using an app or the alarm on your smartphone or smartwatch. Reminders can help you increase your water intake, especially if you struggle with being forgetful or too busy to drink water.
For example, try setting a reminder to drink half a glass of water every hour. Think about it like this from 7am to 7pm, while you drink half a glass every hour. That could result in up to +/- 1800ml (1.8L)
Schedule Your Water Intake
Finally, an easy way to boost your water intake is to simply create a schedule around the tasks that you must do. In other words, use a drinking water as the prerequisite for your task.
For instance, drink one glass of water when you wake up. After that a glass before you shower. Furthermore, a glass before every meal and with all the other things you do daily. Lastly, a glass before bed.
Cool Benefits of When You Drink Water
- A glass of cold water in the morning may help wake you up and boost your alertness.
- Also, drinking water before bed can keep you from waking up with a dry mouth and bad breath.
