Home Office Hacks For Optimum Productivity

Working from home can be a little challenging, especially when you don’t have a dedicated home office workspace. Here are some home office hacks for optimum productivity. But, what do you do when you cannot go shopping for office items? You can easily raid the rest of your house for items to create a “focus-friendly” workspace.
Home Office Hacks to Being Productive While Staying at Home and Working from Home
You will want to:
Stay Hydrated
One thing that shouldn’t change when working from home is staying hydrated. Keep your focus by filling a jug every morning and putting it on your desk. It makes topping up your water glass quick and easy. Alternatively, you could fill up your largest water bottle and keep it on your home office desk.

Stay Calm in Your Home Office
Scents can do wonders for your wellbeing and state of mind. For instance light a scented candle or move the fragrance diffuser closer to your home office workspace for added calm. Plants are not only known to reduce stress; but they also bring the outside indoors. So put a succulent or a pot plant on your desk (if it fits) or around your home office workspace for a natural mood booster.

Stay Home Office Organised
An organised workspace will boost your productivity. Bring order by using a coffee mug from your kitchen to keep your pens and pencils together. Along with a cute dinner plate or tray for keeping other bits and pieces in one spot that is easy-to-access in your home office workspace.
Stay Well Lit
Get a table lamp to create soft lighting that is gentle on your eyes and mood. Position the lamp to behind your camera(webcam) so you have professional-looking lighting during those important video meetings.
Stay on Top of Your Home Office Behind the Scenes
Look at what’s behind you the next time you’re on Microsoft Team/Zoom/Skype. So you can up your background game by moving out the clutter and replacing it with a photo frame or a pretty décor piece. Set what you want into the scene, and video conference with confidence.
Stay Comfortable
Firstly, you want to use an office chair, don’t have an office chair? No problem. Choose a chair with a back and just add a scatter cushion to sit on for extra height or pop it behind you for extra back support. Or both behind and to sit on. Secondly, with winter around the corner, keeping warm helps with concentration. Wrap your favourite throw around your legs or your chair for added warmth. Lastly, dress in your most comfortable clothes, making sure your top is presentable for those video meetings if there are any.
Stay Uninterrupted
You may not be home alone while working from home. Put up a do not disturb sign or note at your door. Alternatively, set some rules and a timetable for your family. Something like; “I am working from 8h00 until 13h00. I will take a lunch break for an hour and knockoff at 17h00. Only interrupt me if it is an emergency.” Trust me they will understand. Have some noise control periods or let them know when you are in a video meeting to keep the noise down. Just remember to tell them that the meeting is over.

Stay Creative and Uninterrupted
Be creative on how you get your home office as productive as possible. I have a friend who says his wife helps him pretend to their two-year-old that he is going to work every morning only so he can sneak back into the house and “lock” himself in his home office during business hours. This helps him stay uninterrupted all day. They have a whole routine together, with the goodbyes from the front door including a call from “work”.
