Style solution to I Have Nothing to Wear Blog Post

In this style solutions piece, I am going to help you solve the “I have nothing to wear” problem for good. You will not catch yourself saying “I have nothing to wear” again.

“I have nothing to wear!”, an expression we find ourselves saying more than we would like, while we are standing in front of our overly stuffed closets.

Style Solutions to the “I Have nothing to wear” problem

1. Declutter your Closet

Firstly, declutter your closet. I know this sounds very odd. The problem is that you have nothing to wear and I am consequently saying you need to declutter. The clothes that do not fit you that are too small or too big, get rid of them. The clothes that are washed-out and worn-out, get rid of them. As well as the clothes you haven’t worn in the past year to two years, get rid of them. Take everything that you are unable to wear currently out of your closet. Purge!

Just because you are detoxing your closet you need not throw the clothes away you could donate them to charity. They just need to get out of your life. Purge!

Yes, yes, yes, I know and understand there is that one motivational outfit that you are working towards fitting into one day. That is the only, I mean the only item that can stay.

2. Always Ready To Wear

Think about how many times you have taken something out of your closet, only to not wear it because it was missing a button and you did not have the time to replace it. Or the times you could not wear that dress because it was creased and load shedding was within the mix, or you were just too lazy to iron?

Secondly, another big style solution is to keep your clothes in a ready to wear state. Now that everything left in your closet after decluttering is what you can actually wear, keep it ready to wear. What this means is that you must keep all your clothes washed, stain treated, ironed, steamed, dry-cleaned and fixed (buttons, zippers, hems, rips etc.).

Make it a point that you do not put something into your wardrobe before it is perfectly ready to wear.

3. Planning Ahead

“If you fail to plan, you plan to fail”. In addition the next thing to do is to plan ahead of time. If you have a special event, meeting or occasion plan for it. Prepare your specific outfit in advance, that way you do not have the dilemma of “I have nothing to wear” the day of the big event.

Not limiting this to special occasions. You can also plan your week’s outfits at the start of the week to lessen the pressure of making the “what to wear” decision in the moment.

In addition to planning ahead of time is checking the weather forecast and selecting your outfit making provision for the weather on that day.

4. Grooming Is A Life Saver

This one may have you thinking, “huh?” But trust me with this. For example, I will and have taken off a top or dress that exposes my unshaved underarms (This is just me; you might not be bothered and that is absolutely okay). I will change from open-toe shoes to closed shoes because my toenails are looking a mess. On the other hand some people would never wear shorts or mini skirts with unshaved legs. To clarify, this is not limited only to the female gender. It is inclusive of everyone.

At the end of the day, we are all different in our preferences and believes. so, do what grooming means to you.

Plug: I find that using Veet Hair Removal Cream (Sensitive) for my underarms and legs.

The style solutions here is to stay groomed in the areas that you personally feel can not be exposed looking some type-a way. Stay shaved, nails done, heals scrubbed, moisturised and healthy, and so on.

Plug: I also get my nails done at The Treat Nails in Boksburg or Midrand, Johannesburg. They do beautiful work without breaking your bank.

5. Invest in The Basics/ Essentials

Lastly, invest in basic items that pair very well with almost anything in your closet. Avoid the very trendy pieces, unless you really cannot resist. start with your neutral colours, your blacks, whites and nudes. Keeping it simple with items that can be used in multiple pairings like more tops, bottoms, and layering coverups is also helpful. These can be mixed and matched across the board while staying true to your personal style.
